DIESEL EMISSION REDUCTION GRANTS - CLEAN FREIGHT HOUSTON

Background

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is awarding $40 million in grants to eligible entities the Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program. The Program solicited proposals nationwide for projects that achieve significant reductions in diesel emissions in areas such as the Houston region that have been designated as failing to meet federal air quality standards.

Current Situation

The US EPA has provided preliminary approval for a competitive federal grant in our region to replace or repower diesel freight vehicles and equipment with all-electric models. The grant under review includes $971,250 in funding for the Clean Freight Houston project. $437,062.50 will be provided by EPA, while an estimated $534,187.50 will be provided by local match.
