ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION GRANTS - HARVEY RECOVERY

Background

The Economic Development Administration is awarding $587 million in grants to eligible entities to address economic challenges in disaster-impacted areas. The Austin Region office received an allocation of $129,119,000 in funding for economic development organizations, universities, non-profits, and local governments for economic infrastructure programs and projects related to Hurricane Harvey recovery and resilience.


Current Situation 

The Economic Development Administration has provided preliminary approval for six competitive grants in our region, four of the grants have already been reviewed by the H-GAC Board, the two grants under review this month include the following: 

 

  • $3,000,000 to Dickinson Economic Development Corporation to develop Dickinson Public Market  
  • $484,340 to NationSync Community Development Corporation to provide Computer Systems Analyst workforce training for disadvantaged individuals 

 

The projects are consistent with the goals and strategies identified in Our Great Region 2040, the 2014-2018 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, and the Regional Plan for Economic Resilience.
