For contract year 2019, San Jacinto College District will provide $200,000 for three ombudsman positions in Workforce Solutions. These funds will pay costs for salaries, benefits, travel and overhead; and staff ombudsman will help individuals access education and skill upgrading primarily in health care and construction trades occupations. The Workforce Board continues to identify both of these industries as short of skilled workers.
Two staff will be employed by Employment and Training Centers, the Workforce Solutions Employer Service contractor. These staff will work closely with employers, the Workforce Solutions system and other community resources to help trainees find work.
The third staff will be employed by BakerRipley, a Workforce Solutions Career Office contractor to help identify and assist customers who are interested in welding and pipefitting.
H-GAC will provide funds to BakerRipley and Employment and Training Centers to hire staff and carry out the work.
Staff placed in these positions support San Jacinto College training projects which are federally funded through the Department of Labor and the Department of Health and Human Services.
