CYPRESS CREEK WATERSHED PROTECTION PLAN

Background

The Cypress Creek watershed has been identified through routine water quality monitoring and in previous watershed planning efforts as a priority area for water quality protection and improvement. H-GAC has secured funding from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, with support from local stakeholders including Harris County Precinct 4, to work with local stakeholders in completing a Watershed Protection Plan for this area. The plan will focus on voluntary measures that can be taken to reduce water pollution. The planning process will build on watershed characterization studies that are currently finalizing and will include a high level of public participation.


Current Situation 

Project elements will include:

  • Compiling and evaluating water quality data and trends.

  • Working with local stakeholders to identify pollution sources and develop appropriate protection strategies

  • Updating computer models to inform stakeholder decisions

 

Activities under this contract will commence in October 2018 and continue through August 31, 2020
