CHILD PASSENGER & BICYCLE SAFETY EDUCATION & OUTREACH

Background

Since March 2010, H-GAC has contracted with Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Childhood Injury Prevention (TCH) and its Safe Kids Coalition to expand its child passenger and bicycle safety outreach assistance. The Safe Kids Coalition is a key provider of education and assistance in the region for proper child safety system installation.

Through this partnership, SafeKids has trained 148 additional child passenger safety specialists, including four Spanish-speaking, distributed 25,000 bike helmets to economically-disadvantaged children, held several bike rodeos for child bicycle safety, provided child safety materials to over 600,000 people, and provided 6,400 child seats to economically-disadvantaged families in the region.


Current Situation 

As part of the regional safety campaign, H–GAC is requesting continuation of an agreement with Texas Children's Hospital for a period of two years and for a total contract amount not to exceed $160,000. Texas Children's Hospital is the sole provider of this education and outreach in our region.
