HURRICANE EVACUATION EDUCATION CAMPAIGN

Background

To help residents in the Houston-Galveston region better prepare for severe weather events, H-GAC developed, and regularly updates, hurricane evacuation planning maps. These maps, of particular interest to residents and businesses in coastal zone communities, depict high-risk areas (as designated by the Federal Emergency Management Administration) and emergency evacuation routes. The maps help people determine which coastal zone they live or work in and evaluate procedures for safe, orderly evacuation.

This hurricane preparedness education effort will bring attention to H-GAC’s regional evacuation maps. To maximize outreach efforts and raise awareness, H-GAC seeks contractor assistance to purchase multi-lingual media placement services in the Houston-Galveston area, targeting residents in coastal zones.

Current Situation

H-GAC solicited general contractors to assist with the purchase of media and advertisements during the Atlantic hurricane season, predominantly throughout the months of September, October, and November.

A Request for Proposal was sent to three H-GACBuy contractors, and we received one response. A committee of representatives from H-GAC evaluated the proposal submitted by Steel Branding on June 29, 2018. Based on the committee’s scoring and evaluation, the recommendation by H-GAC staff is to award the Hurricane Preparedness Outreach Campaign contract to Steel Branding. The campaign is expected to yield several hundred thousand TV, Movie Theatre, Radio, and Digital Media spots.
