TxDOT FUNDING AGREEMENT FOR TRAVEL DEMAND MANAGEMENT AND PUBLIC EDUCATION PROGRAM

Background

The Travel Demand Management, Marketing, Outreach, and Public Education Program (Program) will provide education and resources for alternative modes of transportation in the Houston-Galveston Transportation Management Area  for commuters, employers, local governments, and community organizations.  The Program aims to reduce peak period commuter trips and vehicle miles traveled, improve traffic mobility, and improve air quality by reducing ozone-forming vehicle emissions.  The Houston-Galveston TMA is designated as non-attainment by the Clean Air Act.  Funding for the Program will be provided through a Local Project Advance Funding Agreement between H-GAC and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).


Current Situation 

H-GAC is currently developing the Local Project Advance Funding Agreement (CSJ# 0912-00-549) for approval by the TxDOT to provide $4,438,000 in Federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funds to implement staff and consultant public outreach activities for the Commute Solutions and Clean Vehicles Programs.

 

Activities implemented under this grant include, but are not limited to:

  • Public outreach and education promoting commuter alternatives and resources

  • Public education on alternative fuels

  • Campaigns targeting commuters and major employers

  • Creation of outreach materials

  • Design and publication of annual and other reports

  • Continued maintenance and development of program websites

  • Social media outreach campaigns
