H-GAC received funds from the Texas Workforce Commission in 2017 to expand and enhance registered apprenticeships in the region.  In addition, we have received funds from Bay Area Houston Advanced Technology Consortium (BayTech) to support fiber optics training.

We have received a total of $300,000 for expansion of apprenticeships in the region -- including increasing the number of companies that sponsor apprentices and the total number of individuals in apprenticeships.  Bay Area Houston has provided $16,000 to source at least 40 candidates for training and jobs in fiber optics.

We are proposing to allocate $222,000 in apprenticeship expansion dollars and $16,000 in fiber optic training dollars to our Employer Service contractor, Employment & Training Centers, Inc. to accomplish most of this work. We propose retaining $62,000 at H-GAC for outreach and promotional activities and events and contractor and grant management.
