COASTAL COMMUNITIES EDUCATION AND OUTREACH

Background

H-GAC has secured funding from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to work with six local jurisdictions in the Bastrop Bayou and Double Bayou watersheds that do not have permitted Municipally Separate Storm Sewer Systems. The scope of the project will be to help these communities implement public outreach and education projects to reduce bacteria in these areas.


Current Situation 

H-GAC will support the communities  of Bailey's Prairie, Bonney, Danbury, Anahuac, Oak Island and Rosharon in conducting outreach activities to address four behaviors that negatively impact water quality:

 

(1) Improper disposal of fats, oils, & grease,
(2) Runoff pollution from pet waste,
(3) Illegal dumping/littering in and around waterbodies, and
(4) Proper care and maintenance of on-site sewage facilities.

Activities under this contract will commence in September 2017 and continue through August 31, 2020.
