REGIONAL INCIDENT MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES

Background

In 2014, H–GAC has been funding the operations of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Motorist Assistance Program (MAP) and freeway monitoring staffing at Houston TranStar. The MAP program primarily serves as a freeway assistance patrol, providing limited roadside assistance, and assisting in the removal of stranded vehicles from the freeway. In January 2016, Harris County began freeway monitoring activities from Houston TranStar to detect, assess and dispatch assistance for incidents that occur on the freeway system.

Current Situation

The current interlocal agreement is set to expire on August 31, 2017. At its March 21, 2017 meeting, the H–GAC Board of Directors approved acceptance of additional funding from TxDOT to provide funding for these activities for the next two years. The requested interlocal agreement with Harris County will continue funding MAP and freeway monitoring staffing.
