CRIMINAL JUSTICE FUNDS FISCAL YEAR 2018

Background

The Criminal Justice Funding Program supports projects that address needs of crime victims and help prevent or reduce crime by enhancing criminal justice efforts in the region. This is accomplished by providing community planning support and technical assistance for applicants desiring to fund projects that meet one or more of these objectives.



Current Situation 

For FY18, applicants applied online to the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division under Request for Application solicitations rather than directly through a specific fund source.

The H-GAC Criminal Justice Advisory Committee scored all competing applications in March and April 2017 and met on April 24, 2017 to review and approve each Priority List. Projects not shaded are recommended for funding.

  • Justice Assistance Grant Programs (JAG) Solicitation

Justice Assistance Grant funds support programs that reduce crime and improve the criminal justice system. Projects 1-37 would be funded as noted by the red line.

  • Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (Juvenile) – Local Programs Solicitation

Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention funds support programs that prevent violence in and around schools and improves the juvenile justice system by developing effective education, training, prevention, diversion, treatment, and rehabilitation programs. Projects 1-18 would be funded as noted by the red line.

  • General Victim Assistance (VA) – Direct Services Program Solicitation

General Victim Assistance funding provides services and assistance directly to victims of crime to speed their recovery and aid them through the criminal justice process.  All projects would be funded.

  • Violent Crimes Against Women Criminal Justice (VAWA) and Training Program

Violent Crimes Against Women Criminal Justice  assists in developing and strengthening effective law enforcement, prosecution and court strategies. All projects would be funded.

 

Non-competing continuation applications are listed in the order established in previous priority rankings. Competing projects are listed in the order prioritized by score and eligibility for FY18. Once approved by the H-GAC Board of Directors, these applications compete at the state level for available funds. Awards made by Criminal Justice Division may deviate from the H-GAC recommendations to achieve statewide priorities.
