ELDER AND VULNERABLE ADULT JUSTICE PROJECT

Background

Houston-Galveston Area Council’s Area Agency on Aging and Public Safety programs are collaborating to create an Elder and Vulnerable Adult Justice project in the region. The project provide regional planning and coordination of law enforcement, court system, adult protective services, health care professionals, and counseling, crisis, and other service professionals to assist older and vulnerable adult crime victims to better access to criminal justice and community services.


Current Situation 

H-GAC is applying for Victims of Crimes Act funding through the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division. The proposed project will develop law enforcement, health care, and community service multi-disciplinary teams, a needs assessment, policies and procedures, and processes for case coordination and collaboration of victim services. The first year will focus partnerships and planning in Montgomery, Fort Bend, and Galveston counties. Application proposed funding begins October 1, 2017.

 

Proposed budget for the first year is $383,967 ($307,174 State, $76,793 in-kind).  Costs include staff, facility, communications, travel, and supplies; outreach; support for multi-disciplinary teams; and development of training modules for law enforcement, justice system, health care and community professionals.
