HAZARD MITIGATION PLANNING

Background

The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) region is vulnerable to a wide range of hazards. One of the most effective tools a community can use to reduce hazard vulnerability is the development and adoption of a hazard mitigation plan. In 2018, H-GAC developed hazard mitigation plans for Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Liberty, Montgomery, Walker, and Waller counties and their municipalities. The 2018 plans are expiring, and new plans need to be developed. Austin, Liberty, and Walker counties and the City of Angleton requested that H-GAC seek grant funding assistance from the Texas General Land Office to develop hazard mitigation plans on their behalf.

Current Situation

H-GAC has been awarded grant funding from the Texas General Land Office to develop Hazard Mitigation Plans for Austin, Liberty, and Walker counties and the City of Angleton. The funding source is Community Development Block Grant Local Hazard Mitigation Planning Program Non-Research and Development Mitigation funding. There is no match requirement for the grants. Plan updates will take approximately 12-months for completion. The individual budgets are shown below:
